On this new page, you can now get win-loss records and scoring data (overall, BCS OOC, non-BCS OOC, and non-FBS opponents)  of any FBS conference in any chosen season or over the entire BCS era.

2009 post-season pages moved

Links to the post-season SoS, conference rankings, and pseudo-BCS rankings have been removed from the index page of BCS Central.  However, the pages are still around – use the new links in the previous sentence to access these pages.

The BCS database may now be accessed!

Information on each and every FBS team, during any season of the BCS era (from 1998 onwards) is now available on this new page, which is now linked from the history page.  The data includes win-loss records and points for & against in: all games, conference games, BCS out-of-conference games, and games against FCS teams. Also, if applicable, information will be displayed about a conference championship game, final BCS ranking, and a BCS bowl.

The BCS Central database project is not finished.  There will be more information available, and additional ways to access the database.

BCS Central is now “ready to tweet”!

With the new season rapidly approaching, you can keep up-to-date by following the new feed at  http://twitter.com/bcs_central.   All the tweets will be purely informative (no ads!)  – mostly about changes and additions to BCS Central, but also short notes about interesting college football happenings.

You can also let your own friends and followers know about any post by using the new “Share on Twitter” and “Share on Facebook”  links.

Yardage records unearthed from database work.

Several new records, dealing with rushing and passing yardage totals in BCS bowl games,  have been added to the relevant BCS Central page.  These new items were made possible because work has begun on building and populating a BCS Central database, which is by far the largest project in this site’s history.

Top 10 Teams: Points Scored & Allowed Against AQ Opponents

The blog title, taken from the header of this new page, is self-explanatory.

How have conferences’ teams done prior to playing in BCS bowls?

Four new columns have been added to the table on the “Conferences in BCS Bowls” page to help answer this question.  For each of the eight FBS conferences that have placed teams in BCS bowls, the table now lists the Average pre-bowl number of overall Wins & Losses, in addition to BCS out-of-conference Wins and Losses for the conference’s bowl participants.

conferences’ aggregate BCS rankings points

The title of this post describes the new column on this page‘s table.   Not surprisingly, the two highest totals belong to the only AQ conferences (SEC and Big 12) which have always had 12 members.  The ACC consists of 12 teams now, but had just 9 at the beginning of the BCS era.   Another non-shocker is that the Big East, with only 8 members, comes in last among the 6 BCS conferences.

Top 10 teams of the BCS era in head-to-head matchups

The table on this new page shows that, other than intra-conference rivalries, the highest rated teams have rarely faced each other in the BCS era.  Miami and LSU have both played 7 such teams.   Texas has a winning record against each of the 4 top-10 teams it has played.

The dates of next season’s BCS bowls have been added

to the [big surprise] BCS Bowls page – the results of the most recent games may still be seen in tables on pages dedicated to the BCS NCG and the Fiesta, Orange, Rose, and Sugar Bowls.

Top 25 teams of the BCS era against all FBS conferences

In the BCS era, the Big West Conference existed for only the first 3 seasons.   Boise State, IdahoNew Mexico State, North Texas, and Utah State were members in each of these seasons.  Arkansas State joined at the beginning of the 1999 season, while Nevada left the conference at the end of that season.

As can be seen on this page‘s updated table,  Auburn is the only team in the top-25 of the aggregate BCS rankings to have played against teams from every FBS conference.  However, Alabama, Ohio State and Tennessee have faced opponents from all of the 11 currently existing conferences.

USC is the only top-25 team with a winning record against all the conferences of the teams it has faced from 1998 through 2009.

The “My conference is better than your conference!” arguments never end, but the table on this new page provides irrefutable evidence of how successful the teams of any one of the six BCS conferences have been against opponents from the other five conferences.
